Congratulations, you’ve been issued your student visa! Now, the final step in the process is using your new documentation to travel to the U.S. Here is what you can expect when using your visa at the U.S. border.
1. After you have been issued your student visa: you can enter the U.S. beginning 30 days prior to the start of your studies.
2. At the airport: present your visa, passport, and I-20 forms at the port-of-entry. Here, a Customs and Border Patrol officer will make the final decision about whether you will be granted entry into the U.S.
3. After you are granted entry: you will be given an admission stamp or an I-94 form to certify your arrival.
From here, you are all set to begin studying in the U.S. You do not need to renew your visa to travel home for school breaks, but you will need to renew your visa should you leave the U.S. and want to return after your visa expires.
