CMU is one of the nation’s 100 largest public universities and its main campus sits in the upper Midwest of the United States in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. What is it like to study at CMU?


All of the faculty and staff at CMU have one goal in mind, for you to succeed academically, professionally and personally. Through their hands-on learning approach, CMU offers 227 labs and outside-of-classroom learning experiences and internships. The main objective is to fully prepare students to enter their field of study and flourish in their careers. Not only will the courses prepare you for your career, but you will also work side-by-side receiving guidance from faculty members who are experts in their field. The staff and faculty at CMU will help you prepare for your transition into the workplace, with a career services department to assist with resume writing and interview preparation to ensure you are presenting your best self when applying for jobs.


What academic colleges does CMU offer?

  • College of the Arts and Media

    • Music, dance, theater, public relations, broadcasting, and journalism are just a few of the academic offerings in CMU’s College of the Arts and Media. The faculty and staff offer high-quality programs in a learning environment that fosters creativity and real-world experience.

  • College of Business Administration

    • More than 4,000 students are enrolled in College of Business Administration courses, pursuing careers in entrepreneurship, accounting, economics, finance and law, management, business information systems, and marketing and hospitality.

  • College of Education and Human Services

    • Preparing students for careers that will enhance the lives of others. Graduates go on to successful careers in education, counseling, event planning, fashion, and more.

  • The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions

    • Offering students a challenging, vibrant, and diverse learning community, rich in clinical experiences, internships, research, and community outreach. A national leader in a variety of health professions, CMU graduates students with physicians assistant, physical therapy, audiology, speech-language pathology, and athletic training degrees.

  • College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences

    • Study people and cultures (cultural & global studies, English, history, women & gender studies, world languages), communities (political science & public administration, museum studies, sociology, social work), the human mind (psychology), and the fundamental questions of human life (anthropology, philosophy, religion). All majors at CMU also have the opportunity to pursue a minor in military science and leadership.

  • College of Medicine

    • Created to address a growing shortage of doctors, is focused on preparing physicians dedicated to practicing in some of the most medically underserved communities in central and northern Michigan.

  • College of Science and Engineering

    • Offers areas of study that take you from the depths of the Great Lakes and oceans to the farthest corners of the universe. Biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, meteorology and computer science are just a few of the academic offerings.


What is the campus like at CMU?

Central Michigan University has a beautiful and safe campus environment, located in a very friendly and welcoming town. The campus itself is very walkable making it easy to get from class to class. CMU offers so many experiences for students, not only inside the classroom but outside of the classroom. They have over 400 clubs and organizations to choose from, there are so many opportunities for students to get involved on campus. They also have NCAA athletic programs, which are very competitive and reputable.


CMU faculty and staff encourage their students to become involved in on-campus activities, they have academic groups and social groups like their International Student organization. They offer great activities, allowing students to bond through canoeing, skiing, and even trips to large cities in the U.S.
